Do you often feel nostalgic about the ’80s? Do you miss, big hair, spandex, leg warmers, high waisted jeans, teased perms, hackey sacks, parachute pants, shoulder pads, and more importantly your first walkman?
Does the thought of having to re-spool your favourite cassettes with an HB pencil make you weak at the knees and more than a little moist? Then MIXXTAPE for you.
What is it?
Let me introduce the awesome 4th generation MIXXTAPE. It’s a retro-styled old skull cassette tape remixed into a high-resolution touchscreen audio player with looks to utterly die for.
Just check out these statistics and as we did marvel at what they packed into this audacious little aurally pleasuring minx.

Who is it for?
Any audiophile would love to have this diminutive gadget, its greater bit depth and higher sampling frequency allow more information to be stored giving greater detail to the music delivering you a hugely immersive listening experience.
It also can amazingly be slipped nice and snuggly into any tape player, boombox or ghetto blaster which is for me retrotastically rad.
The MIXXTAPE is set to be priced at $121 and is expected to ship this December (just in time for Crimbo), and it comes bodaciously bundled with these tremendous treats.
- MIXXTAPE Gen 4 High-resolution audio player
- Silicone protective case
- Cassette box (jewel case)
- USB-C charging / data cable
- Blank J-Card
- Sticker sheet
Is it worth it?
So at $121, would I smash open my piggy bank and splash out on one of these bad boys with my hard-earned pocket money? Well to be quite frank, no. Why? I hear you ask, well if you’re sitting quite comfortably I will divulge that exact reason.
The more distinguished audio quality isn’t a huge selling point for me. With just 8 GB of storage (although you can increase this to 512 GB with a microSD card), I am delighted to stick with my phone where my audio appetite is regarded. I also carry enough unneeded shit in my continually weight gaining satchel.
I also stylistically personally prefer the 2nd generation MIXXTAPE even with the absence of the touch screen display. Did someone holla, “Style over Substance?”
So should you grab one of these? Well if you need a magnificent looking ’80s inspired audio player, then please fill your boots, sit back and enjoy a tremendously superior listening experience than you currently dig on your phone.
My last words on MIXXTAPE are that I absolutely love it. I just don’t get paid enough to rationalise spending my coin on something I don’t need, despite my sincere desire.
